Don't understand the price of lower units??

My lower unit went out on my 99 Merc two stroke. Mercury wants $1500 dollars for a new one. I only paid $1200 for the whole engine brand new!! What's up?

I too am clueless.Can it be rebuilt?If so,shop around for parts and a knowledgeable outboard person.Maybe a used unit from ebay.Just some idears.

I am with you - it is often cheaper to get a new or used motor then get a fix

See if you can find a used Merc with a blown power head - then you have everything you need!

Put out inquires at marinas and outboard service shops

you need to post the make modle and year . some one might have one. post the probablem . you may not need the foot just parts .the biggest thing i have seen is a busted housing bent shalft . berring could be bad from running with no grease or water in the foot.that should be checke atleast 1 time a year or more .
