mid 70's Mercury 20hp Price?

Found a 20hp Mercury for sale here in west cental Indiana at a garage sale. Average paint condition, no oil leaks, clean under the hood, starts and runs at idle, unable to lake test. Owner says it is a mid 70's price is $875, says he won't take any less. He doesn't know a lot about the motor as far as history, he bought it with a boat and upgraded to a 20hp 4 stroke. Any thoughts on value, or issues with this age of motor. Are parts still available. I'm looking for a dependable low maint. outboard for a 1448 Sea Nymph. Thanks, Todd

I think that is overpriced. $500 sounds more like it if it runs & is in good shape.
You can find a newer used 25hp for that price around here.
Checks craigslist (use https://www.searchtempest.com), look around some more.

I agree. This time of year $875 is a bit steep for a 70's motor. offer him $500 and leave him your phone number.

Don't worry,at $875 that motor won't move fast.I have a mid 70's 20hp Merc that only gave $350

I just sold my 14 Jon(alum), 25 ele Merc, rebuilt foot,carb job, jackets, lines,anchor and trailer with new tire/wheels and spare for $1,000.00.

I agree with the above posters... I bought a 1966 20hp Johnson for $200, though it is a bit beat up. I'd say $400-$600 depending on its condition, but you'll find better deals on newer blocks at $875.
