Starting my mod on my new topper 1436. When making a hatch cover, do i reduce the hatch by 1/4" on top of the 1/8" cut from my circular saw. Or do i need to go bigger to account for the carpet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the thickness of the carpet.

Hatch Cut Size = Opening - (Carpet Thickness x 2)

If the opening was 12 x 18 and the carpet was 1/8" thick, the Hatch Cut Size would be 11.75 x 17.75

Forget about the thickness of the blade. Just think about finished sizes.

Thanks i guess i also have to remove carpet thickness that i will be putting on the decking

I was talking about this at work and the consensus was i am going to step on center of hatch and break it anyway so make more than one. My wife agreed. Too funny.

I will be back at it on the weekend as i try to actually fish between thoughts to gauge where I need to alter my plans. I will provide more pictures as I go.

What thickness of plywood are you using?

Updated photo of a long day baking in the sun, finished benches and bow platform...all thats left is to construct main floor on back section and head to Lowes for more carpet...

I have found that a $5 2'x75' roll of white paper was my best friend in getting exact layouts of the decking and benches...

Roasty Great Job there. I have the same boat with trolling motor on transom and 2 batteries. What kind of wire and connections did you use to lengthen the battery cable? I want my batteries up in the bow if possible. Any tips?

I used a minn kota connector which allowed me to connect the 10 gauge from the 55lb thrust mk trolling motor to the 8 gauge wire run to my battery up front.

The part cost $22 and can be ordered from the website if in the states.

It can connect 6-12 gauge cables as needed. Also a quick connect so i can remove motor and leave wires as is.

JTF thanks, the minn kota manual shows what cable to use for thrust levels and length of run including what size breaker.

Today was a good day as the floor in the back is now in and the weather forecast shows no rain for a week.

Definitely made good use of suggestions from other builds to speed my life up.
