Hi guys,
I bought an old Mirrocraft 16ft with a 74" beam this spring. It came with a 25HP 1971 Johnson outboard. The transom was cut too low and it was rotten so I'm replacing it.
The distance between the rear aluminum transom and the transom knee brace is 1 1/4". I glued together 2 pieces of 5/8" BC Fir plywood. Is it thick enough? I see that most transom are made of two 3/4" plywood.
Should I add another layer of plywood from above above the knee brace to the the transom top to make it 1 1/2" or 1 5/8" thick?
I'll be replacing the outboard with something newer, 90's or 2000's probably. How thick can I the transom be before being too thick for the outboard clamps?
