Got an invite yesterday afternoon from my buddy Joe to fish for flatheads. I joined up with him around 6, grabbed some bait, and we on the river by 7:30. For the first 2 hours I watched him consistenly catch fish after fish. The biggest being around 8lbs. I decided to use a much bigger bait then the usual bluegills we caught, and just wait it out for a big fish. After about 3 hours of soaking, I got a long run, ripped that hook, and hooked up with a bigger and only flathead of the night for me. Considering how early it is still, and only my 5th, or 6th trip out, this year is shaping up much better as far as more quality cats.

Nice fishing.
Are you aloud to fish for other fish, while waiting for cats to bite?

I do not eat anything out of our local waterway.I throw those cats back so they can grow bigger.

I use 30lb mono on my baitcastors, and 65lb braid on my spinning setups.

And yes, you can fish for other species while waiting for catfish bites, but I just like to target one fish and one fish only when I go out.
