Anyone ever do a DIY tunnel in a tin boat?

It help to find a good prop shop to add some cup to your prop. I had a guy work a Powertech SRA3 for my 4 stroke Yamaha F25. I can pick it up 2” or so with the jack plate and the prop still bites just fine. My little Jon boat with run in about 6” of water with no tunnel.

    12V - 55# - Group 31DC - Approx. Run Time on 16' Alumacraft

I recently upgraded to the saltwater version of the xi3-55 on my 14’ xpress. I run Lowrance Elite TI2 graphs at the bow/helm and have the unit connected in via NMEA2000. The xi3 runs on a dedicated group 27 deep cycle. Battery life is pretty good for how I use my setup. I use spot lock quite...

    Life jackets/PFD

I wear an inflatable also. I keep it on at all times while aboard. It’s very comfortable and doesn’t get hot at all. My boat has pods on the back. An additional added benefit to them is they help with getting in and out of the boat in deeper water. If I didn’t have them, I’d definitely have a...

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

It’s a 12V trolling motor with a group 27 deep cycle. I have a group 27 in the rear to run electronics, lights etc. I usually run a very light load outside of duck season. I’m really thinking the pods on the back of the boat are contributing to my speed issues. I’m considering having them cut...

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

I’ve used piranha props before and carry one as a spare in the boat. I like them but they wear out quickly on the coast due to the sand bottom. During duck season, I consistently ran in water 2’ or less to get to some of the holes I wanted to hunt. With the setup I have now, I can run in 10”...

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

It’s a standard gear case. I think the bigger gear case is the T model (high thrust).

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

I have the F25 connected to my Lowrance graph via NMEA 2000 network so I can see engine info. With a heavy load I’m at about 5k. Solo with a light fishing load or my heavier hunting load, I turn 5600 and run 22-24 mph. It doesn’t change all that much with a passenger under 200 pounds. I can get...

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

I have also considered this option as well but I’m not sure if they make a lower pitch than I already have. The pitch in my current prop is about a 9. The prop shop started with an 11 and kept bringing it down until we got to where we are now.

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

It’s rated for a 25. I’m fine with 5hp over. This boat has had a 2 stroke 30 and a 2 stroke 50 in the past with no issues. The new D model tohatsu is pretty intriguing. The opinion of the shop I spoke with was that the new 3 cylinder should make more torque than my current Yamaha and it has...

    Tohatsu 30hp vs Yamaha F25

I have a 1448 xpress with a 2020 Yamaha F25 mounted on a cmc PT35 power tilt unit. It has a powertech SRA3 that’s about a 9 pitch. It was tuned by a prop shop and had cup added to allow me to run the motor up a little higher since I run the flats in the Texas coast. I’m considering swapping to...

    Multi-position fish finder mounting solution?

For what it’s worth, I’m playing with mirroring my iPad to my Lowrance Elite Ti2. So far it’s working very well. And, bonus, my kids like it. We tried it out the other day while trolling for bass for a few minutes. I let them hold the iPad and watch the downscan. It keeps them happy while they...

    2020 motor on a 1982 boat

My 2020 Yamaha F25, short shaft, manual tilt, electric start weighs about 135 pounds. You could save weight by going with manual start. Those motors weigh a little less and you don’t need a cranking battery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Bunk carpet suggestions

My dad has always used old fire hose split down the middle lengthwise and nailed on with copper nails. 3” hose should cover a 2x4 nicely. Maybe stop by your local firehouse and see if they have any out of service stuff they are going to toss. I know we toss it at work from time to time. Sent...

    Mercury or Suzuki

I just bought a brand new Yamaha 25 hp tiller for my 1450 xpress. The 15,20 and 25 are the same chassis and the 30 and 40 are the same. Each chassis size weighs the same between the different horsepower ratings. A short shaft 25 horse tiller with manual tilt and electric start weighs 133...
