I have had that same carb on my 25 easy rebuild and it sure made a difference in the performance of the engine. I did not mess with the float setting at all because it was more a jet issue with mine. It did have a starting issue and idle issue. Both fixed with the carb kit.

Transom saver is the only good answer. I had to do a transom repair because of never using a saver from day one. The transom cracked on the top channel near the motor. I did a transom repair/raise at the some time.

I would take back all the treated stuff and get cedar. This will still give you the benefit of better contact with weather and wet better than just pine. If you use pine get a good sealer for it and remember to reseal is during the off season every few years.

Have you checked out the power packs....coils? Same problem on a 78 Evenrude 25. New coil packs fixed the problem. Marine dealer repair man said that I was luck to get 30 plus years out of the junk originals.

I have a friend who needs to find some lower unit gears for his 84 25hp Johnson. He could not find any that were reasonable. The going price for new is over $600. Let me know if someone has any ideas.

I am having some continuing problems with the tilt/trim on my 93 40hp Mariner. It will not raise the motor again. It did this last fall the boat shop put on a used unit and it worked for awhile. Any ideas?
