    Relocating to SC

Some great lakes and fishing around the upstate of SC. Great area to live, if you like the outdoors.

    rust converter thoughts

The por15 can be expensive, when you add in their chassis coat cover paint. But, if you do it right, that trailer will last your life time. Por15 completely seals and becomes a rock hard coating. You can beat with a hammer and not chip it. So it costs more to do, but you never have to do it...

Por15 is a great product, but know that you have to put a paint over it. It does not handle UV rays.

    another gunwale question

Sandwiched wood will be plenty strong. Pvc will give no stability.

    1464 sea nymph new project

The AT's have wood inside and out. The wood is the gunnel of the boat. Mines like 1.5x1.5 strip 1x2 inside and out would work.

Maybe a tarp? Lay it out, hang the ends and sides. Lay boards in bottom and fill with enough water to cover them. They have to be soaked or they may splinter trying to make the bends.

Best way is to soak the wood in water for a day or two. Then get lots of clamps and form it to the boat, then let it dry really good before bolting it down.

new project, should I or should I not?

I would replace it with 1x2 oak or teak, inside and out. Stained and sealed would look great.

new project, should I or should I not?

On the AT's there was no funnels. Just the aluminum wall. The wood was the funnels and added support and stability.

1970 ish Mirrocraft 14 Deep Fisherman Project

Best I found was a wire cup on an angle grinder. Fastest stripping and smooth finish.

new project, should I or should I not?

That may be an Arkansas. Traveler. Hard to tell from that pic. They came with 1x2 wood on gunnels. Someone just went cheap and replaced it with 1x4. Great boat to deck out.

need info on this JC PENNEY MOTOR ASAP

From what I read, most of the store brands of that era were built by OMC. Basicly just renamed evinrudes or Johnsons. Maybe look at older OMCs and see which one matches up. Then you can order parts that way.

    Motor too big?!

I would say 15hp and under is no problem for that boat.

    1970 Arkansas Traveler restore/mod

Nice looking AT. They are strong boats. Pretty much sit down and figure out what you want to do, set go for it. They have thick ribs on floor for attaching flooring, so its not bad. I have a 1959 14' AT. I completely deck mine in. Here is my build thread. I'm about 3/4 ways done with it...

    fuel lines

My small town hardware store carries the yellow line in all sizes. 5/32 is $1 a foot. It is used on riding mowers. Most small engine shops should have it.

    Good aluminum boat paint

You want an etching primer. Rustoleum paint is good on top and bottom. Roll, brush or spray it on. 3-4 coats. Let it dry good between coats.

    Alumacraft? 16' just the beginning....Done

Motor should be mid 60's and up. Look for casting numbers on base plate. I know my is a 60 and it has the older square top.

    Tool Type Questions

Actually it is hit or miss. I have one HF grinder that has outlasted two Dewalts and a Milwaukee. I have abused the hell out of it and it keeps going. I have had others that died after a few months. For $15 I would take the gamble on one, for what you need.
