Leak Emergency

Good to know, but I'll stick to only doing it when on plane. If you're sitting low in the water chances of water coming in rather than going out are much higher.

    Leak Emergency

I could be wrong, but in my experience that only works if your boat is "on plane." I'm thinking his 6hp probably doesn't get that 13' tinnie on plane with 2 people in it....

    That floor looks pretty sweet!

    Treated plywood

Well said rcaircraftnut. Everyone seems to think marine grade PW is the creme de la creme, when in reality they're just wasting their money. Regular PW when well coated with epoxy is 10x better than MGPW as far as rot goes.

It’s that time of the year! 100 questions

My MinnKota 70lb Maxxum is 11 years old, still going strong. Thinking about dropping down to a 45lb troller because I generally get from Point A to Point B on the outboard now —- NJ lakes vs SC lakes. Opinions? 70# pros: 1. its 24 volts...if you figure using Ohms Law, you are only...

    jet/boat options

just looked at your picture again, yeah, mine is probably 2 feet further fwd than yours is. Otherwise, pretty much the exact same setup.

    jet/boat options

Maybe I mislead you...it is only bow heavy when on plane with my fat butt at the console :LOL2:

    rub rail alternative

I was using the wrong terminology, I actually was thinking about PVC. Hey....I'm a mechanic, not a carpenter! LoL! :LOL2:

    rub rail alternative

Yes! PVC is actually what I was referring to, I guess I just used the wrong terminology. I think 3/4 is a little thin though.

    rub rail alternative

All I saw on FleaBay for $35 was rub rail inserts...... I need the whole 9 yards.

Well, there goes that idea! Thanks for saving me the frustration!

    jet/boat options

If you buy a boat with an open floorplan, whatever you do, do not get the console mounted too far forward. I put my console at the edge of my front deck on my 1648 Crestliner w/ the 60/40 Merc 2 stroke. It works great when I fish with a buddy. If I am by myself, however, the front plows...

    Treated plywood

I have been using construction grade plywood in my boats for over 25 years. As long as you put 2 good coats of 2 part epoxy sealer on it, you are good. I've always used Gluvit, and it works great, but it is expensive. Someone on here suggested a similar alternative, which was much more...

    rub rail alternative

I'm looking for a more reasonably priced alternative to vinyl rub rail. Considering MDF cut 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" then run through my shaper to look like the drawing below. Paint it whatever color you want.

    Transom Replacement Material Options

Agreed. I had a buddy try to talk me into using HDPE for my Grumman deep vee w/ 60 HP Evinrude. The stuff is just way too flexible for a heavier motor. Might work OK for the posters 9.9, I wish him well, but I went with good ol' tried n true plywood. On that subject, everyone always says...

Lowe 1448 Missing Live Well Plug

Did you ever figure this out? My Crestliner is standard 1" MPT (male pipe thread) which measures pretty close to 1 1/8" OD I'm almost wondering if thats what you have on your Lowe.

    Which jet

Go for the 60/40 2 stroke Merc you won't be sorry. I switched from a 25/18 tiller to a 60/40 remote in 2017 wish I would have done it 10 years ago.

    merc 60/40 question

Curious what you ended up doing here. I took my 16 footer from a 18 HP tiller to a 60/40 with fwd console back in in 2017. Wow, wish I would have done it 10 years ago.

    Ribs cause. Problem with jet?

Depends on how big the ribs are. I have a Crestliner mod. V that has a strong center keel and a rib on either side 6" away, never hasd any trouble in the 20+ years I've owned it. Biggest thing is getting the motor mounted at the correct height.
