Why even bother using carpet on the bunk boards under a tinboat? Water sealed 2x4's wide side up should be enough for loading/unloading and trailoring the boat, right??? Anyone do/did it this way before and have problems?

It is a 1985 Evinrude 30 hp. I ran it on the hose for about 10 mins and after I was done, about 15 min later, this oil started to come out from where the prop meets the lower unit. How bad is this? Is there a seal between there somewhere that needs replacing? :( Edit: I called a local dealer...

What is the proper way to use the vent screw on the gas cap. Do I leave it open to release pressure during storage and close it down when running the motor? Also what in the heck is that bolt for at the top of my picture all about? Is it another vent spot?
