    Holsclaw Trailer info

I have a Holsclaw, a '59 Model. I too have found very little info on them. It seems Holsclaw made good, albeit, pricey trailers, and they were not so popular. https://www.fiberglassics.com/library/Holsclaw

    Deep cycle battery sizes

You don't need 40# thrust on a kayak. I've used a 17# thrust motor on a kayak and that was probably overkill. That is good news though, smaller trolling motor means smaller battery for the same run time.

    Lowrance announces outboard pilot.

They use these on pretty good sized sailboats, and they will tie into most newer GPS units. If you were steering and outboard under about 25 hp i'd bet one of these would work.

where to put batteries on electric only tin boat?

My boat (a 12'er) sits poorly in the water with me, the 55# trolling motor and 2 deep cycles in the back. After adding some length to the motor wires and putting the batteries in the middle of the boat (just ahead of the middle seat) the boat performs much better. Your boat may be heavier...

    I'm an idiot!

A while back a got a screaming deal on a late 90's Nissan 8hp 2 stroke motor. As it was on a sailboat, and the previous owners told me it was a long shaft, I figured it was. Tape measure said it was just a bit over 21" to the prop shaft. So today's plan was to build a engine stand for the...

    $150 yard sale find!

When you get that thing on the water and catch some tasty fish, clean a meal or twos worth and drop them off for the nice lady that sold you the boat.

    Trolling motor battery?

They probably dropped it into a car and it will only last them a few hard starts. Hopefully, when it dies, it is the time the thieves need it the most, and justice finds them....

    CB radio

It's your boat, add whatever you'd like to it. That is the beauty of this site and the concept behind it. Without knowing where you live and what water you'll be enjoying, know that salt water is nasty to most things not built specifically to be on a boat. CB's, Scanners, and Ham radios can...

24 volt trolling motor circuit breaker connection

This thread has gone a bit silly, so let's get back to reality. ZZZ, The circuit breaker does two things, it protects your high dollar trolling motor in the event something goes terribly wrong, and it protects the wire. Prudent and safe practice is to install a quality breaker very near...

    Trolling motor swap

While I have no specific knowledge of your model of boat, I would check the size of the wire going to the original plug. The new motor will require more current and therefore may need a little larger wire. If the manufacturer offered a larger trolling motor as an option, the wires are probably...

    inboard conversion

For no other reason that to prove it can be done I am considering an inboard conversion of my 14' tinny. The idea would be initially use a Harbor Freight 6 hp gas engine to prove the drive train, rudder etc. and then convert it to a 10hp electric start diesel. Conceptually a centrifugal clutch...

Benefits of reverse gear or......How not to park your boat!

Pretty sure the backstory to that vid is that the boat in question was going to be scrapped. Quickest way to get it ashore is exactly as the captain did, get her steaming and hit the beach. Pretty good shot splitting those boats IMO.

    Bail-R-Matic?

I have something similar on my boat and will be replacing it in the spring. It gets clogged quite easily. If your boat stays on a mooring line there have been good reviews about this product: https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=63254 In no way do I represent...

NAME 5 NEED TO KNOW PEARLS OF WISDOM- beginner help

Ask the mechanic that is mounting the motor on your boat to give you some basics on your new motor. Starting, both cold and warm, trimming (so the boat rides nicely across the water), and basic maintenance, shear pins and the like. Ask about flushing the motor if you are going to operate in...

    My Hobbie, My Dogs

Dogs, our story: It all started when her mother was gravely ill. Our family dog had just passed, and that added weight to the pending doom. One day leaving the hospital the elevator door opened and there were two dogs leaving the children's hospital. We were both on the edge of tears...

    Adding electronics ?

Babills, Forget the terminology and semantics, they are irrelevant. The issue is your safety and the longevity of your valuable electronics. Make sure you have a fuse (or circuit breaker) inline with each device. Without knowing the exact details of the electrical layout of your rig you...

    Adding electronics ?

Can you connect them both to the bus bars and get them to work? Very probable, but not please don't. The negative wires are fine connected all in one place. Good practice is to add a fuse or circuit breaker for each device connected to the positive side. This can be as simple as an inline...

if you had to choose 3 rifles...

I'd take my bolt action .22lr Springfield MII, for small game. My fine tuned Rem 700 in .300 Win Mag for the rest of the legged game. And the ole school AR, like GTS225 said, once you learn a firearm well enough that it is instinct, it just makes sense. Let's change it to three guns in a new...

Talk me out of building my own (plywood/glass) boat?

I love stitch and glue boats. There is a historical charm and innate connection between wooden boats and the water. A fine wood vessel is a work of art and each has been built with hands on care. But wooden boats are typically heavy, expensive to build, and require FAR more upkeep than a...
