Sounds like a good deal! And yes, you are correct both marine and pressure treated plywood will being to corrode aluminum. As to how to deck your boat, some pics would help to see your layout. But your options are wood or aluminum framing, id suggest aluminum just so you don't have to worry...

Nice boat ya got there. Has a lot of potential, But im diggin how open it is. As far as your question goes... I don't believe it will effect the integrity of the structure. But I'm a bit confused, do you plan on moving the console a few inches back closer to the bench or move the console and the...

    New guy New boat

Well, there are unlimited possibilities. What's great about having a bare boat like yours is you can modify it to fit your needs perfectly. Fortunately, there are a lot of brilliant, creative, and helpful people on this site. How long is the boat? looks 12'? 10hp should push it along just fine...

16' Lowe Utility-V: Prepping for paint.

Finally got around to taking the engine off, and boy was that a struggle. Broke a clamp bolt in the process. Oops. We had an even bigger struggle getting the transom plate off to reveal the wood, and boy was that a good idea, it was in pretty rough shape. And probably the biggest struggle (no...

    Paint questions?

Xpress, My answer to your question is YES, preparation is everything. I would strongly suggest removing the paint with a good paint stripper/stripping wheel/electric sander. Otherwise, the etch primer would have nothing to etch into. plus it makes for a nice clean finish at the end. As to how...

    1997 Landau 1648 Jon Boat

Yeah, I think I'm going to spray a light tan/sand color like the brand new models have. I haven't hit the whole boat with stripper, You can kinda see where I used the orbital sander in some spots too. just depended on what I was in the mood for. stripper is a bigger job with a big mess. Skuffing...

    1997 Landau 1648 Jon Boat

Hey, I am at the same point on my boat as well. (Paint Stripping) have been for a while. I am using KleanStrip KS-3 Premium stripper. It works wonders if the temperature is right. which its not at the moment.... It comes in either a gallon can or a pray can. Just a suggestion. As for surface...

16' Lowe Utility-V: Prepping for paint.

Is it easy to bend those bars? cause we certainly don't have any tool specific for that. But that sounds like a good idea. And yeah I want to put that water seal foam tape stuff around all the hatches but i think we want to waterproof all the wood in the boat.. just to be safe.

16' Lowe Utility-V: Prepping for paint.

Thanks guys! I have to say, I'm in a bit of a pickle. We're putting a hatch in-between the two benches that the deck sits on but we're limited in room because of the Vhull. I know a lot of people buy plastic basket things from the store but we cant cause the v starts getting deep. So i want to...
