OK guys, all during my build I've been creating my list of suppliers for the different parts I would be needing for my build and adding them to my browsers favorites list. Well my computer died a while back and I lost all that info. So now I find myself ready to order my hinges for all my access panels and I can't find the site I had decided to use. I don't recall the name but they sold hinges of every imaginable type/size in 8' lengths. They would even cut the hinge into 2 pieces for you to prevent an oversize shipping charge. And I got the name of the supplier from someone here on the forum. So hopefully someone else has that same site on their favorites list and can give me a link. Any help would be appreciated.

I looked at Mcmaster and even considered using them until I found out they want as much for shipping and handling as they do for 8' of hinge. The place I had bookmarked before mentioned on their site that they would cut the 8' into 2 pieces to keep shipping cost down. I may end up having to pay Mcmasters price but I'll keep looking for a while longer. Thanks for the response.

I looked at the local Home Depot and Lowes but all I've found were steel hinges. Did you get aluminum or stainless there?

The cheapest, steel. I hit it with steel wool and painted it. It has held up for 3 years now now rust and the paint is still on it.

aircraftspruce.com is where i got mine, super cheap, great quality aluminum piano hinges

It's not the one I had on favorites but it will do. Order placed and thanks.

glad to help, i actually haven't put those aluminum ones to use yet, but they're great quality, especially for the money, well packaged too, they'd masking taped them to a 1x2 for shipping so they didn't get bent out of shape in transit.

on my build, i lucked out that a local boat dealership's service/parts guy let me have a 3 or 4' stainless piano hinge for $10, they had cut a small section off of it for another job & had it laying around wasting space. i was able to cut that stainless hinge into 3 sections to adequately hinge my hatches

They must have changed their policies since you purchased yours. I was in the process of placing an order for one 8' aluminum hinge until I discovered they wanted $14.90 S&H which was more than what the hinge cost. And I know that's not a lot of money but if they want to charge more for their products then they should just do it instead of hiding profits in the shipping charges.

I just bought mine a couple of months ago, Maybe I'm closer too.
I also bought more than one, so the shipping seemed more reasonable devided by 6.

It's the length of the item. By the time it's packaged correctly to prevent damage you're looking at least at a 8 1/2 tube or box. When you get into long lengths there are additional charges from the shipping companies (UPS & Fed Ex) which will be passed on to you.
