Hi,

My questions is...if I using 3/16inch aluminum angles and rivets rated for a shear strength of 500lbs and a tensile strength of 450lbs how far can I run the aluminum without needing structural support underneath? Idealy I would like to simply rivet a angle bar to both my middle bench and the front bench and then 4 run additional angle bars between each bench. The space between is about 4 feet.

Thanks

Still think there are too many variable to tell you yes or no. Your weight, your deck, the space between your longitudinal supports etc. What works for me may not for you.

Best way to find out... Test it! Just don't secure your deck and then do whatever type of stress test you want and you be the judge.

Based on what you're describing, it sounds like if you needed support, you wouldn't have to remove anything, simply add to it.
