Just wondering (this has probably already been asked by someone else), is it necessary to remove all of the old paint before I repaint my boat, or do I only need to smooth out the surface before I apply primer? Thanks in advance!

Remove any old paint that's cracked or peeling, scuff the rest that's still holding good. Prime any bare aluminum spots with self-etching primer first, then use whatever primer is appropriate for your paint over everything.
