Going to get it done today. Crashed early last night and slept like a log. 60 degrees out so weather is going to be on my side today. Thinking I will wipe the boat down again with acetone then follow up with alcohol. The inside of boat is going to take some time to paint. A lot of cutting in around the seats and seat supports.
Smells to me like yer guna be huffin some fumes soon...Good Man!

I have good ventilation in the shed. Window fan and a large floor fan. Garage is spotless so I do not have to worry about blowing dust around.
Dust in fresh paint sucks big time. I like to wet the floor a bit before I spray...aint guna be perfect, but it definitely cuts down on extra bs time.

About 20 years ago I went to a concert in McAlester Oklahoma. Merle Haggard was playing in a small bar. Got to stand about a foot from the stage and watch him perform. Even had a chance to talk to him after the concert. Really one of best days of my life.
Excellent. Confirms what I've always thought. Merle was just a normal man like the rest of us.

Don't over do anything, there is always another day !! I am in rhe same boat so to speak, due to.my arthritus when I see some nice weatger comming, I get extra rest waiting fot it to get here so I can give it my best when that good weather comes !!
Same here, I have lived 30+ yrs. everyday & I mean every day! from 35 to 65 yrs. old in arthritic pain from Job related injury's to getting out of bed took 1/2 hr. & couple hrs. & pain meds and muscle spasm meds before any attempts made to try anything outside so I take advantage of nice days, I pay for it in long run, feels like first week of football training. After
sore battered & bruised,
& that's working on the boat! lol!> hell! I have not moved around like that since I was in my teens and early 20's//
& nice weather is always a god sent esp. when one does not have a shed or garage! thank God for those portable one's/But as my Aunt use to say a "little at a time and it all comes together."

Well first coat of primer is onIMG_1797.JPGIMG_1798.JPG Dry vacuumed the entire inside really good. Then wiped it down with acetone for the second time. After that wiped it down with alcohol. Primer went on smooth. Did cut it with the 200 thinner to allow the primer to flow more even. Due to cool temperature waiting for first coat to set before applying second coat. Really happy with the results from first coat. It is taking some time cutting it in and the rolling it out. Did discover I have more blue paint then I original thought which is good. Had four areas on the outside which had runs and sanded them out. Nothing major. Been at this since about 3:40 am.

Oh, that sounds fine !! Very hard wood. I might like the look of Red vs White Oak in cabinets and wood projects, although in this case it will be sandwiched and won't really be seen. But , it will be nice to know it's there, supporting everything.

I had to cut an 80yr old Red Oak w/diameter of 42", on the east of my property as it was dying , loosing large limbs & hanging over the dirt road to my driveway. There are a few property owners in the back woods that used the road & were very unhappy to see me cut it down. I didn't want to be responsible for anyone getting killed by it & it took up the whole east rising of the stars & planets at night restricting my astrophotography hobby.

The previous owners came back about 5yrs after I purchased the property and offered to buy it back. They said I had made the place look so much better (brighter w/more grass) after cutting the trees and opening the dark, hidden look from before. Well, that and they missed it. But this was geauxing to be where I lived out the winter of my life after traveling for work all my life. It's 1st house purchase & last place I'll ever live. I guess I love it as much as they did.

Unfortunately , she died and her husband asked if he could spread her ashes under the Red Oak ?? My, ... , I mentioned I had cut it down, but they already knew. Seems they had been monitoring my progress w/ the place and she wanted to be spread there anyway b'c she loved it so much. I told him, "of course, come spread her ashes, I'll pray w/him and have coffee and talk if you like ... you are welcome to visit her anytime". Well, he did and then 6 mo. later there daughter informed me that her father had died and wanted to have his ashes spread next to hers. "Of course" I told her and we had coffee , prayed and did the whole thing again.

It's kind of funny though, b'c it's on the top of a slope that ends up draining across the dirt road and into a pond that drains back into my property through a culvert way up front of my property by the main street. Well, I guess they're back on the property by now albeit not exactly where they intended.
Anyway, I think it's funny how God makes such interesting stories for ppl in life. It seems there's a interesting story about everything I've every experienced ?? Maybe it's just the way I look at them but it makes my life fun. I always wanted to have my ashes poured into the L.S.U. lake where I grew up in the shadow of Death Valley (Tiger Stadium) & the university, sailed, fished & learned self relience !! But that's a whole other story.
Sorry bout' the book. Love the Red Oak idea,
Thanks for sharing,
Sincerely ....................
What a beautiful story.

Pardon if you’ve mentioned elsewhere, what are you painting her with?

Aluminum primer by Total Boat and Aluminum Topside flat paint by Total boat. Outside primed with the same painted with AF aluminum Paint by Total Boat. Very expensive paint but well worth it. The paint cost more than what the boat is worth. I have spent a lot of money and time restoring my Wife's dead brothers boat. I really liked the guy so yes it has a lot of sentimental value.

First coat of paint on. Using Total Boat Flat dark earth paint for aluminum. Glad I got the dark vice the Light earth paint. Figure it is going to take about three coats. Letting it set up prior to second coat. IMG_1799.JPGIMG_1800.JPG About the same color as the mud around the lake so should make clean ups simple. Really have to spread thin due to the possibility of runs. Tired and worn out but can not stop now. To stop now and continue later would require sanding the last coat which is not something I want to do.
