Spray it really good with penetrating oil. Then it should just pull right out. Or may have to take something and stick through other end a tap it out.

I have a 81 model 15hp Evinrude. I think they,re the same as a Johnson. I got a deal in mine at $275. It runs great, starts easily and is light and powerful. Only thing i would be really concerned with is saltwater usage. I,ve heard its very corrosive to aluminum. Brian.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking it might help on wear and friction since its an older outboard. I was worried it might be to thick to mix with the gear oil.

Not 100% sure. The knob you,re talkin about is a throttle tensioner. I think its used to make the grip harder to turn so you can use the motor for trolling and not have to hold it all the time. Hope this info helps out. Good luck with you,re new motor,Brian.

I would look for a Johnson or Evinrude. Ive had bad experience with Mercury myself. They tend to have weak electronic systems. Just mt two cents. Brian :|

I broke down and let someone who knows what there doing look at my engine. The mechanic tore the carb down and discovered the low speed idle mixture screw was broken up in the carb. He fixed that with a new needle and rebuilt the carb with a new kit. I go pick it up tommorow. He said it runs...
