Post a Pic of your boat!

Haven’t been on the forum for quite a while. Lots of great projects and boats to catch up on. I have had a number of Alumacraft models over the years, 1436, (2) 1648’s (made a side console out of one of them), an 1860 SC with a 90, a dual console Pro 185 with a 90, and now still have a 2018...

    Floor material?

Another option on a floor is plywood with LineX or Rhino Liner. I have done two 1648 Alumacraft floors with foam in between the ribs and then notched and cut 1/2" marine plywood to fit. After sanding and detailing the plywood and filling any small voids, I took the pieces to my local LineX...

    Buckethead's 1974 Duracraft 1720

Did you ever get the jackplate installed? That should make a big difference in planing and carrying weight. I assume it's a fixed unit, or can you adjust the height manually? Adjustments will give you a lot of options as well; different heights for different loads. Also, with the larger...

    Mojo's 1995 Sea Nymph 1648

The detail and amount of work you have put into this project is awesome. What a great job of envisioning and executing on your ideas. I've done two 16'ers over the years, but none to this level. Excellent job. We're all waiting to see the finished product.

    Plywood decks

For me, it was the ease of working with wood as I am a carpenter. Aluminum channel or angle for supports and framing, and 1/2" marine plywood for floors and decks. I actually wanted a little more weight to stiffen the ride on my 1648 Alumacraft. The floor boards have closed cell foam under...

New member. New post. Old topic

Depending on the size of the leaky spots, the sealant can work if you clean the surface and you let it set up and cure. Putting it on the inside and the outside is best. The fiction of the rushing water on the exterior will gradually wear it away, but it will stay put for quite a while. The...

    decking question

You can screw it down with SS screws. Check the length so you don't go to deep. I like to use SS finish washers on the screws as well. Looks nice and neat, and gives the tapered screw head good holding power.

    Seats: Most comfortable ?

Tempress is always my favorite. Bass Pro had the 89.00 ones on sale last time I bought them in the spring for 69.00. Maybe this year again?

    How much hp

IMO, the 9.9 would be the lowest you would want to go. In the long run, you may be more pleased with a 15.

    alternative carpet material

I put a marine plywood floor in a 16' Alumacraft a couple years ago and took the sections along with the seat bench tops to my local LineX dealer. He gave me a reasonable price (can't remember what it was) and he sprayed the tops and edges of all of the pieces with my choice of a LineX color...

This site causes me to drool and to dream....

"Sweetheart, these aluminum boats are really like an investment. They hold their value and I've looked around enough to know that we're getting (notice the we) a really good deal on this one. I can basically do some modest upgrades to make it more corfortable for us, and really not have much...

SWAMP SLAYER UPDATES NEW PICTURES MORE TO COME

Paint job came out nice. You've done a nice job. By the way, that money thing? It affects 99% of all of us. Don't let it bother you. Do you own a boat? Yes. Did you have the ability to make it nicer than when you got it and modify it? Yes. Are you able to get on the water and enjoy...

    Transom rebuild or jack plate??

I agree witht the 1/8" not being heavy enough. I think 1/4" would be a minimum, especially if you're going to make it adjustable. I had a CMC trim/tilt jackplate on my last 1648 and I believe it was 3/8". Their webiste would verify that if you want to check. I had a 25 Yamaha on it.

Mods to IMPROVE the ride - Smart Tabs or ?

A flatbottom is a flatbottom, but there some things that should help (some already mentioned): Redistribute the weight in the boat. Play with the trim while running to find a "sweet spot" for spanning from wave to wave. Adding a Doel Fin (best priced planing aid that works) will allow you to...

Project "A Little Snookered" New Pics 03-19-2012 !!!!!

Just had a chance to look at your build. It looks great, the ideas, the execution, the gatorgrip, etc. Super job. It looks "factory".

My pleasure. There's always that "money factor" that gets in the way. I know the pain.... In the meantime, tilting up a notch or two may help.

    1997 Landau 1648 Jon Boat

The motor is definitely too low if the cavitation plate is 3 - 4 inches below the bottom. That's where the spray is coming from, and you're also loosing some power and speed with the additional drag of the lower unit. Raising the motor up a notch or two may help, but if the angle becomes too...
