    Broken transom knee brace

I had this happen to my boat. Got a welder to recreate, with thicker aluminum sheet. That, along with some caps he threw on the corners and my transom is now bomb-proof. Which is a good thing considering I throw a hella-vibrating mud motor on there for part of the year.

    Driver to Motor Position Question

I have a tiller extension that really makes it comfortable when seated. Also a grab bar so I can stand up. I will never nit have one again.

It was a leaky tell take house. Thanks JMichael!

Help me figure this out.. please!

Makes sense, will do this this weekend. As for other possible causes to inspect... idling long way out of idle zone/shallow water. Hey, a 1994 2-stroke 25hp tiller doesn't have anything like a "safe" mode does it? For overheating due to.. I dunno, higher-density water? (I know, maybe a stretch...

Help me figure this out.. please!

I had posted the problem before, but I wasn't sure at the time of the salt vs. freshwater correlation. https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=31855 But, now I am. But how would the fact that salt water is around the foot of the motor, and in the cooling system, have any impact on...

Help me figure this out.. please!

I was thinking about that. But how does the salt water affect the ignition system? I'd think it was pretty well separated from all that stuff.

Help me figure this out.. please!

I have a 1994 25hp Merc 2stroke. In freshwater, it runs like a champ. All season, duck hunting and fishing, no issues in my local lakes, river, creeks. But when I take it over to saltwater (Mosquito Lagoon/Indian River) it won't develop power. Like its on one cylinder. Only there. And every time...

    l.e.d. running lights question

I used these. So far they're working great: https://www.boatersland.com/att35207.html?gclid=CN-1pLrGxrkCFSdp7AoddkcAOQ For my stern light, I used something like this...

Perplexed - running on 1 cylinder (sometimes)

Thanks guys, I'll do that and see what it gets me. Hopefully it'll isolate it.

Perplexed - running on 1 cylinder (sometimes)

I'm slowly learning the ins and outs of outboard service (the hard way, apparently). I'd certainly appreciate any insight or thoughts on what I'm dealing with here... I have a 1994 25hp Merc that has been running on 1 cylinder. The first time it happened, I put it in saltwater and the...

Low compression results... would you trust this gauge?

Yep. Already borrowing a 3rd to be sure. I think the first gauge had a faulty connection between the hose and threads that go into the plug holes. Now I still have the original problem.... but whatever it is it just got potentially cheaper I think. Since it was only going to 25% max rev on an...

Low compression results... would you trust this gauge?

Well, yesterday I went at it with another gauge, and lo and behold I got 115 in both cylinders So that's good. Or much better, anyway. Still lower than service manual says I think it was around 120. Now i don't trust the gauges. Nothing worse than a faulty gauge, can lead to a whole lot of...

Low compression results... would you trust this gauge?

Thanks for the heads up - I went and googled it and it doesn't look good. Hopefully that's not it... or it's time for a new motor.

Low compression results... would you trust this gauge?

I have 94 Merc 25hp 2-stroke that I've been running for about a year and a half. Last year, compression numbers were "real good" according to my mechanic. Don't recall what he said they were though. Last weekend while out on the water, it started fine, idled fine, etc. but would not...

    OutBoard Service Repair manuals

Hi Jim, I am having a hell of a time finding (online) a manual for my 25hp Mercury manual/tiller.. You have anything for that? If so greatly appreciated!!! And if not, also greatly appreciated - this is a great service you're providing with this thread. Thanks, Matt

    Simple question..

Found it! In a parts diagram I was directed to on Boats.net. It's called an "idle wire." Well, the reason I ask is that mine is gone. I noticed that turning the knob had no noticeable effect on the engine. Pulled the cowling off and noted the assembly moves but it's not attached to anything...

    Simple question..

Forgive my lack of knowledge w/regard to O/B parts, still learning my way around. But what is this part called (the rod in the red box attached to the primer assembly)?
