I had this happen to my boat. Got a welder to recreate, with thicker aluminum sheet. That, along with some caps he threw on the corners and my transom is now bomb-proof. Which is a good thing considering I throw a hella-vibrating mud motor on there for part of the year.

I have a tiller extension that really makes it comfortable when seated. Also a grab bar so I can stand up. I will never nit have one again.

Found it! In a parts diagram I was directed to on Boats.net. It's called an "idle wire." Well, the reason I ask is that mine is gone. I noticed that turning the knob had no noticeable effect on the engine. Pulled the cowling off and noted the assembly moves but it's not attached to anything...
