    painting an aluminum jon boat?

If I had to guess, on the outside 6 cans acid etch and 12 cans paint. Probably a bit more to paint the inside. Acid etch in cans is pretty spendy too. Maybe it's a lot cheaper if you use a gun. Also, if you go acid etch from a gun, you may be able to get it tinted jon green, and not have to...

    which boat should I choose

What's your budget? What do you want to do with the boat? Fish, bowfish, duck hunt, joy ride, river fishing, lake fishing? What are you going to fish for? If you're fishing panfish vs. muskie that could determine your livewell size. See if you can snag that trolling motor too! I like a...

    painting an aluminum jon boat?

You'll want to go with an acid etch primer to get good adherance to the aluminum, then your top coat will defanitaly stick better. If you are going to paint it with a gun, then get the paint from your local paint shop. If your doing a spray bomb job then go with a little better grade like Krylon...

    which boat should I choose

There is no such thing as too much boat. I have a 21' Jon and sometimes wish it was bigger. The only point where there would be an extremely minimal difference would be how low in the water the 16 sets vs. the 14 and I doubt either one will be in the water more than 8-10 inches.... And there's...

Do you ever truly finish modifying a boat??

But the benefit of the wife thinking you get nothing done is that she asks you to do less because you already have too much to do/finish. :D

    Bottom Worn Out

I have asked around about epoxy roller covers but haven't found anything. What makes them different than a 1/8" nap paint roller?

My boat, My story...(if you're interested)

I intend to keep this boat forever, so every mod I do is in either stainless steel, aluminum or plastic. Whenever I see a DIY project where the person used plain steel screws and sheet metal, I know in a few years it will look like it's 20 years old. Over the last few years I have drilled a few...

    duck boat

That boat looks small enough that you could modify a clam ice fishing shack to fit on it. If you made the top interchangeable then you would have an ice shack and a duck blind.

    Center Console conversion?

I started re-thinking about the center console and the rod locker would really get in the way, and defeats the center console idea. I was thinking center console because I would like the ablility to stand for better vision. I think I'll just put a grab bar on my side console. I don't really...

    Joe's 1448T

In project management they term that "scpoe creep" That's pretty much my life story when it comes to my boat. But then again, that's what makes this site so great.... if everyone left well enough alone, this site would really suck. :D

    Center Console conversion?

I was thinking about it today and came to the conclusion that I could try to convert my side console boat into a center console. Has anyone ever tried to do this? Other than the fabrication and maybe needing to run new steering and wiring for dash gauges can anyone think of any other hangups...

Here we go again, boat #2, Got it wet 11-5 w/pics and video

2 reasons... 1) The tiller throttle should be spring loaded and drop back to idle when it is released, rather than continuing to run full bore and have the boat run him over if he were to fall out. (it happens)Those old control boxes don't have a kill switch lanyard. 2) The throttle controls...

    Got another one.........

That is one clean looking boat. I really like it! It looks like you need a set or oars and a "Gone With the Wind" woman with an umbrella sitting in the front like something from a Norman Rockwell painting. I really agree... The visions of a perfect fishing day dance through my head all winter...

1432 Sears - My First Project

Yes, 2 batteries are needed for a 24V trolling motor. So really 3 batteries are needed because you'll need a 12V system too. Unless you get a 24V bilge and lights, but that costs more than just a 3rd battery. I have an 80# thrust TM and it was highly recommended I go with a Minkota 60amp...

    Newbie! With my boat pics

Looks nice, did you glue/staple the carpet then run the screws to hold the boards down? Is that that cheepo outdoor carpet from Menards? It looks like the same stuff I used, except mine is green. If it is... I really like the way mine has held up.

New dude ! New boat! ??????????????????????????

I bought the outdoor carpet from Menards and glued it down with outdoor carpet adhesive. It's holding up fine after 3 years exposed to the summer sun.
