    1989 25HP Johnson throttle won't turn!!!

Hey y'all. I just recently had a problem with my motor and I'm stumped. I went fishing and powered out to the spot. We trolled around until dark and when I went to fire the motor back up, the throttle wouldn't move. It was completely locked up. I took the linkage off of the ball joint and the...

    MOTOR TROUBLES!!!!!!! Please help

Here's what I'm up against. I didn't adjust the float after I put it in, so that's most likely the problem. I didn't see a screw in there to do so with. I replaced all of the welch plugs as well and reseated them properly. Here's a picture of the carb. Can someone tell me how else I could...

    MOTOR TROUBLES!!!!!!! Please help

Hey everyone. I have a 1989 Johnson 25HP (Model J25RCEM) thats having a few issues. It was running rough (sneezing, oil on the plugs, not idling just dieing, and not running at full RPM) I put in a carb rebuild kit and now I've noticed the following issues: -Will not fire up when fuel line is...

    Issues with a 1989 Johnson 25 HP

Thanks for the input guys. I did a compression and spark check. Everything is good there. I know I'll have to clean the carb out (plan on doing this today. Pappy, I saw your post about 24:1 fuel/oil ratio. I put 50:1 in it. Maybe that's what the problem is? Can anyone confirm that it's 24:1...

    Issues with a 1989 Johnson 25 HP

It was brand new gas. This is the first time I had the engine running since I bought it. The other guy said he ran it all the time, but he also said it was serviced last March. Both of those statements I highly doubt.

    Issues with a 1989 Johnson 25 HP

Hey y'all. I'm very new to outboard motors, but I have tinkered with 2-stroke mototrs in the past. I got a 25HP Johnson (Model J25RCEM) with a boat I picked up a few months back. I ran the motor for the first time yesterday and it ran pretty rough. It won't stay idling at all. I have to keep...

First Project! 1985 Polar Kraft 1444 *UPDATED PICS 3/12/12*

Sorry I haven't updated in a little while. LOTS of progress on the boat. I'd say it's about 90% now. Just have to get a few more electronics and other odds and ends, then it'll be ready for the water! Enjoy the pics...

    Jay415's Alumacraft MV1648

Yeah, I think I'll go with everyone else here and say this build is awesome. On the piano hinge you used for the back hatch (where you hid the hinge), what are the measurements for it and where did you get it? I want to do that with my hatch doors on my casting deck, they looked pretty thin as...

First Project! 1985 Polar Kraft 1444 *UPDATED PICS 3/12/12*

Thanks for the compliments. I decided to keep with the idea of an old Army jeep. I painted the numbers with some stencils I made (found them online). I should be picking up the plywood, carpet, hingles, and more urethane for the decks today. Also plan on getting some wiring done today. Pics to...

First Project! 1985 Polar Kraft 1444 *UPDATED PICS 3/12/12*

Question regarding waterproofing decks. Should I waterproof them with Thompsons waterseal or use the spar urethane like I did with the transom?

    Stripping old paint vs not!

You don't have to prime it first. Just make sure you scuff it up well, then wipe it down 2-3 times with a acetone soaked cloth. I've never worked with the teflon stuff before, but a quite a few others on here have. I went with the regular stuff. 1) it's half the price, and 2) I heard it's easier...

Need some ideas for my MOD

I was looking at the exact same stuff to put in mine. The price is awesome, and the carpet looks pretty decent as well. I think I've seen a few people use it around here, but I could be mistaken. In theory, if it's glued down well, and the plywood it's glued to is waterproof, there shouldn't be a...

    fixing leaky bottom?

That all depends on where it's leaking. Is it a rivet or a crack? if it's a rivet, try rebucking it. Easier to do with two people. If it's a crack, you could braze it or better yet, weld it.

First Project! 1985 Polar Kraft 1444 *UPDATED PICS 3/12/12*

Called the DNR today to find out where my registration was. Apparently, they typed in the wrong HIN when they entered it. Seeing as they already cashed my check, I was a bit upset. They gave me the registration number and my new tags should be here with in the week. Hoping to get a few more...

    Stripping old paint vs not!

Err, sanded and wirewheeled it to scuff it up. Figured I should clarify

    Stripping old paint vs not!

When I steelflexed my boat, I just sanded and wirewheeled the paint that wasn't flaking off. If it already has a good bond, there's no reason you should have to sand it all down. Unless you want to. It's up to you.

I'm looking at the Home Depot "Perfection Grey" outdoor carper. It seems like good stuff and I've seen a few others use it around here. Hope it helps!
