You don't have to prime it first. Just make sure you scuff it up well, then wipe it down 2-3 times with a acetone soaked cloth. That all depends on where it's leaking. Is it a rivet or a crack? if it's a rivet, try rebucking it. Easier to do with two people. If it's a crack, you could braze it or better yet, weld it.

Err, sanded and wirewheeled it to scuff it up. Figured I should clarify :lol:

When I steelflexed my boat, I just sanded and wirewheeled the paint that wasn't flaking off. If it already has a good bond, there's no reason you should have to sand it all down. Unless you want to. It's up to you.

I'm looking at the Home Depot "Perfection Grey" outdoor carper. It seems like good stuff and I've seen a few others use it around here. Hope it helps!
