My BIL has a 24v trolling motor that I can have, if I fix it. I would love to go 24v, but that means another ~60lb up front(trolling battery is up front on my jon). Will the weight be an issue? I guess I can put some dummy weight up front and see. I am trying to figure out if the extra weight outweighs the performance aspect.

ok, sounds good. now I just need to get parts for the motorguide 24v the BIL has. He said they want $250 to replace the speed control, or $150 to make it a 5 speed model.

I've got a 1236 and I have 2 of the 29 series deep cycle batteries in the middle bench of my jon, as well as another 29 in the rear... I have no issues with my setup, and it still scoots pretty good across the water. Go for the 24v!
