I got a 14' Smokercraft Semi V in a trade. It was ROUGH when I got it. I found this site on google and immediately got excited about the potential. It doesn't have a motor yet, but I did get a 40 lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor for it. The trolling motor does move it nicely on our State Fishing lake. My youngest son and I have been fishing in it for a couple of weeks as is, but now it's time to get started on the build.

We sanded it today, wiped it down with acetone. We also put the self etching primer on it too. We want to start painting it tonight.

I want to thank everyone on this site for all of the ideas and pointers. What a great help!!

Pics coming soon!!!

These are the pics of what I started with. Rough Huh? Well, diamond in the rough I say!

Here are some pics of the strip down. I had a little helper, my youngest son 8 years old. (who also named the boat the "Chum Bucket", lol)

Gloss paint applied. The boat was really dinged up when we got it. Of course it is 40 years old. So, that in mind, Krylon paint was as much as I spent on the paint job, lol.

The transom was really bad when we got it, so it did require replacement also. I used 3/4" plywood for that. I did get the wood from work for free! I am in the Army, and we just came home from Iraq. They use plywood to seal all of our containers that we shipped home. The wood was actually destined for the landfill, but I rescued it!

It's been a while since I have posted. I have done quite a few mods since my last post. We did A LOT of cat-fishing in the fall with great success, and some bass fishing too!

Looks great! $60 for a trailer is awesome it looks great.

Thanks! I posted an add on Craigslist about looking for a super cheap trailer and a Colonel that works at our hospital on post called me up. The whole trailer had bedliner painted on it so the metal was in good shape. I had to put a light kit and tires on it. If you notice, the LED lights that came with trailer ended up being put on top of my homemade boat guides. Lol. So all in all I have $175 in the trailer in lights tires and black paint.

Thats on of the best posts I've seen on here. Lots and lots of pics of the kids in the boat. All of the posts that have pics of kids in them are my favorites. My kids are with me all the time. Theres never a chance of getting my boat on the water without my 10 yr old son or 17 yr old daughter being with me. Me and my buddy wen fishing Labor Day and my son was right there with us even with a cast on his arm. =D>

fishingmich- You are so right. I am so glad you enjoyed my posts. Love spending time with my monsters. That's what it's all about isn't it? I have three kids and someday, I want to have something big enough that all three kids, my wife, and myself can pile on and go out for the day (One of those 1860s would be nice right?) :D

But my nine year old is the fisherman of the family. Believe it or not, I was not into fishing AT ALL before I got this boat. He was always asking me to take him fishing, and I kept making excuses not to go. How bad is that? A father that wouldn't take his 8 year old son fishing. Now that I look back on it, I realize all of the time I wasted. I know once he is grown and out of the house and I am missing him, I will never forgive myself for not being more "outdoorsy" (as my kids call it).

It all started when I bought this lemon of a jet-ski from a guy that swore up and down that it ran for $600.00, I was so stoked (always wanted one). I got it home and cleaned it all up, took it to the lake, and ...................do I need to say it?....It didn't run, and IT LEAKED LIKE A FIRE HYDRANT!. So I spent a month, and probably 300 more dollars trying to fix that piece of....stuff.

Well, I was so SICK of seeing it sit in my driveway, that I put an add on craigslist, "Jet-ski for sale trade, make an offer". Well a guy sent me a pic of the boat (the first pic of my post is the actual pic he sent me). I was so blasted angry at that jet-ski, and wanted it gone so bad, that I told him that I would trade him if he would throw in $250.00. You know what? he did. To make sure he didn't get a raw deal too, I even explained all the problems I was having, and all the trouble I went through. He was still excited, so made the trade. I took the $250.00 and bought a trolling motor and an anchor. I already had a brand new blue top dual purpose optima that I got of craigslist for $50.00 (I can't pass up a deal.

Well that very next day we threw the boat on my utility trailer, and headed to the lake.........and you know what? .......... I had the time of my life catching bluegill. I have never caught a fish in my life before that. Well, we kept going back (and I caught a catfish by accident I am sure), and after that I was really hooked. To this point we were catch and releasing. I went home and I watched videos on youtube to learn how to clean the catfish. The next time we went, we were on a mission! Bring home dinner! :D

We caught two 4 pounders, and that was big enough for me! We took them home, and it was not pretty, lol. I butchered the first couple. But....I managed to hack enough meet off them to make KILLER catfish nuggets that we deep fried. SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD!

That night I got on the internet. I thought there has got to be people out there that wanna fix up their aluminum boats like me. Google search: Modify aluminum boat.....enter.....first response......tinboats.com

Well the rest is history, and this is all since July 2011.

Now I am into hunting also....I know weird by product, lol. But, I enjoy the outdoors so much. We also picked up a used pop-up-camper to do some camping. Total 180 on my part. I would have been happy to sit in the basement and play video games or watch football. But now, you can't keep me in the house.

Well, that's my little story.
