There's a story about a court jester who would not stop punning. The King had finally had enough and sentenced the jester to be hanged.
As he stood on the scaffold, rope around his neck, a court messenger galloped up and announced that the King would pardon the jester if
he swore to cease all punning in the future.
The jester looked down, reflected a bit, and finally, couldn't stop himself. He said, "Well, no noose is good noose."
and they hanged him.
