Im in the process of putting together a livewell using the Catch Saver https://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_1293____SearchResultser

Do I need to put holes in the top of the cooler for fresh air? Could be a dumb question, we will see.

If your just aerating a cooler (recirculating water in the cooler) you will be in and out of it enough to not have a problem, however you might have to add and remove some water every once and a while to keep it fresh. If your mounting the cooler and turning it into a livewell, then I would have the pump in the transom so you could pull fresh water and then you would need an overflow.
