I have a 35hp evinrude on my 14x52 polar Kraft. The transom is almost too tall for the short shaft motor,it planes out and runs good but in turns it seems to cavitate, engine revs and takes a second to catch up. My question is will a hydrofoil help reduce or solve my problems. How many of you guys run a hydrofoil and do they work?

I would vote against a hydrofoil IMO. Try getting your prop cupped. this will allow you to run the prop closer to the surface of the water without it slipping like your explaining. A 4 blade prop would also allow it to run closer to the surface.

What prop are you running? And where is the ventilation plate compared to the bottom of your boat?

There has been tons and tons of discussion about this topic here over the years

You can always use the search feature -= although it is also good to revisit a subject

Sounds like it's about the perfect height for best speed.

A stainless 4 blade prop with a little cup on the trailing edge would probably help. The extra blade "may" reduce top speed just a hair (1 mph at the very most usually) but it's benefits FAR outweigh the slight loss of top speed.

Hydrofoil will not help in your situation. It would be out of the water with the boat on plane anyway. The only thing it would do is reduce the amount of bow rise just before the boat planes. Usually the 4 blade prop does basically the same thing, and it also keeps you on plane at a lower RPM and stays on plane at a lower RPM and boat speed.

Watch your water pressure. Just make sure if the motor is mounted that high, that it's getting plenty of water for the pump.

I added a Hydrofoil to the 40hp on my 18' Jon, and it made a considerable difference.. but for a different problem than you describe.. My issue was with my fuel tank, 3 batteries , and my copious behind all being close to the stern, the boat labored to get up on plane.. the Foil solved that handily, and it quickly climbs out of the hole now.. . it also keeps it up at much lower speeds than previously..

Right now I'm running a stock aluminum prop not sure what pitch. Could I take my prop and have it cupped or would I have to buy another one. Thanks for the help guys

A prop shop should be able to cup what you have.
