Lawrance interference

Just got my lawrance hds 5 hooked up last night and ran on a completely different setup that my trolling motor, that is to say diff battery and everything. When I engage the trolling motor it interferes with my ff read out instantly for about two seconds then as long as the tm is running no issue, if I stop and re engage same thing. What's going on?

You can try a "choke" which is a ferrite ring I believe which may help or eliminate the interference. Also, are the power supply wires for the FF running along the same path as the TM wires, or on different sides of the boat, or do they cross each other?

If you have a Minn Kota, they might even give you the ferrite ring for free.
