I have a MotorGuide 45lb thrust Brute model 550 12/24 volt hand control trolling motor ( Whisper Guide version ). I only have two speeds working on forward Low & High. All 5 speeds work on reverse; I have switched the contacts between forward and reverse on the potentiometer before but the motor ran slower so would I also have to reverse the pos/neg leads to make it work right? I know the potentiometer is the cause of this and parts are no longer available for such an old trolling motor. So what can I replace the old potentiometer with if I cant get it to work right. It also needs new brushes but I'm pretty sure I can still get those. I'm probably better off just getting another trolling motor but if I can fix this thing cheap enough I will.
