Sometimes a flat bottom has a lot of directional ribs on the bottom compared to a V-bottom.

The trick to making a flat bottom boat faster is turning it over and carefully waxing the bottom. I like a product called Nu-Finish, the once a year car wax, ha ha.

Waxing may seem like a small thing, but it can make a huge difference in top speed, particularly with a flat bottom and a small motor.
