Reel seat

I have a +/-1/16" gap between the bottom of my reel and the blank of my rod. I thought the reel would seat fully on the blank. Is this normal?

I'd say your OK. The reel should set on the seat and not the blank. Your reel seat is open where there would be material for the reel to set on. I have a new split reel seat on the rod i just built. The reel sets above the blank as the one you have shown. It works fine. Keep'er Wet, Dave

In that configuration, the reel foot will not touch the blank.
