I recently finished the mod on my boat but am considering adding a seat for the driver in front of the console. I don't know anything about what to get and am even more confused after checking out Cabelas offerings.
Here are my requirements: Removable, base to be flush to the deck, stable.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I am looking at doing the same with my boat. I have a storage bench with two seats that sit right behind the console. I would like to have removable seats as well. What I hope to achieve is that I can have all my seats removable and be able to place them on bases with pedestals on the front and back decks of my boat during trolling and fishing.

BTW, your project is looking good. I just started mine.

This seat is for fishing, not while underway, correct? If so, I have and would reccommend the Springfield Kingpin series of 3/4" pin type pedestals. Springfield also has a scratch and dent site with some pretty nice discounts. It's where I got my Kingpin bases, pedestals and captains seat base and mount. If your only ordering a single base and pedestal the shipping might not make the discount worth it, but if your ordering a few things it'll save you some money. And the scratch and dent part is seriously barely noticeable, at least on what I got.

Thanks BigTerp. I have seen the stretch and dent posted before in the threads (couldn't remember the name). I don't mind having a few dents on my seats/pedestals. Plus the savings are huge, per the websites pricing. How far do your seats sit up while in the base??

Actually the seat is for driving, not so much for fishing so it needs to be sturdy but I don't want to be tripping over it when I don't have the seat in the boat. I am totally into the scratch and dent option if I can find what I need there. Thanks for the input!

Your resto looks great!

What is the thickness of your decking? If it's 5/8" or thicker you can use stainless steel "T" nuts on the underside for the bolts that hold the pedestal if it's less than 5/8" I suggest a backer plate on the underside made out of aluminum or more plywood.

I have the "wedge base pedestals on my boat, although the base sticks up above the decking I haven't had any problems of tripping over them and they're very durable/sturdy.

Thanks! Floors are 1/2" and I do plan to use a backing plate or incorporate it into ribs of the boat. Your seat bases don't look like the stick up too much, what brand are they?

I got 13" pedestals for my rear bench seat and bow deck seat. Without the post in the rear bench and just the seat it serves as a passenger seat while underway. My captains seat is a Mainstay manual adjustable pedestal that extends from 12.5" - 15" (or something similar to that). I rarely have it up past the second to lowest position though, and that is usually just to allow room to bungee a cooler to the back of the captains seat.

And here is what made them "scratch and dent". I wasn't worried about cosmetics since they were getting painted anyway, but I really don't think you'd notice any of the scratches if left unpainted. I couldn't find a single scratch on the Kingpin bases though, just on my captains seat base.

Wood floor or aluminum? I have .125" aluminum floor. I used another piece of .125" sheet as a backing plate and installed my seat with stainless bolts and nyloc nuts through the floor and backing plate. I also make a box type frame out of aluminum angle that I riveted my floor and backer plate to once the floor was installed. I'm 6'8" 275#'s, and my captains seat is rock solid.
