does anyone know where i can get the parts to change my 25hp evinrude from long shaft to short? new or used parts would be great?

I just pick it up. All i have right now is a serial #. I will get more info soon. Yes it has a 5 in. spacer.

Not to dissuade you from doing the conversion - but you can get around the need either temporarily or permanently by building a jack plate and jacking the whole motor up on the transom. I have been inactively looking for a short driveshaft for a couple years, but they arent exactly common. Evinrude.com does have parts available and probably has the drive shaft, but I'd guess it be a few hundred - they arent cheap. I have heard of people taking their motors to machine shops and having a welder cut the driveshaft and weld it back shorter, but that needs to be precise.

Look for the sticker on the transom mounting bracket. The model # is right next to the serial #. It will start with an "E" since its an Evinrude.
If the sticker is gone then pop the cowl off and there will be a round nearly flat silver dollar size plug/cover on the block with the #'s stamped into it. Look left side of the motor near the back higher up. The left side is when your standing in front of the motor.
If you can't find nothing then post a pic of the motor.

You can try ebay or I have listed a couple of salvage yard web addresses.

***You can post a request at AOMCI (Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc.). You can use there webervise section and do a wtb (want to buy) request. Leave your email address so a seller can contact you. List the make, model and serial number) I have purchase several parts from different sellers on that site and have always been satisfied with the price and the product.***
