I have a 1990 gamefisher 15hp.

This is my first outboard, so not sure how stiff the shifter lever should be. It is pretty stiff, but going into forward it doesn't make much sound and seems to work fine. However for reverse I have to push it all the way over to get reverse to engage and if I let go it pops back into neutral ?

any thoughts ?

how stiff should moving the lever be ? ... even moving it just around in the neutral it feel like it has lots of friction. Should the lever slide easily and then engage, or have friction so it won't get knocked out of gear ?

I don't have any experience with Gamefisher motors but most that I've dealt with move fairly easy with enough friction that they're not just flopping around. And they usually have some sort of detent to stop them in position.
