I just bought I new Alumacraft 1448 and going to be mounting a 1985 20 HP motor on it. Should I reinforce the transom with some plywood???

Your transom should be just fine as long as it's in prime shape. It shouldn't need any reinforcing. The only thing I would say is a must, is that you should buy a motor toter/transom saver. Your transom in my mind takes the most pounding on the way to the landing. The motor should be supported off of the trailer going down the road. Hope that helps.

All newer boats have a HP rating plate usually on the back of the boat. should say USCG max persons/ HP rating...
