Hello!

I recently acquired this small boat and was wondering if anyone could provide an ID.
The old registration lists the boat as a 14', green, 1985 boat.

Now, for the transom wood question. It is completely rotten and flexes with the motor installed.
Also, I need to put a 2x2 under the motor clamp to get the motor to the correct height.

What would you suggest about replacing this wood?

Should I increase the height between the end caps to gain the additional height?
Is there a reason I should/should not increase the size of the interior wood (+2 or +4 inches) further down the transom?

Any other thoughts are welcome as well.

an after market jack plate would be the proper way to handle the height problem.

Extending the plywood transom upward without extending the transom aluminum and aluminum cap upward as well, will just create a weakness at the crease where the 2 boards come together. and any torque from the motor will wear on that crease. I think your current 2x2 situation would be more trustworthy than a purely ply wood fabrication.

That piece of wood on the back (aft) looks awfully thick. how big is this motor?

Thanks for the reply.

I understand what you mean about the crease issue mentioned. I'll look into a DIY type jack plate, and see how much I want to play with this.

Both the inside and outside ply is 3/4 inch thick.

I plan to put a 10 hp johnson on the boat.
