I've been working on a 1975 Mercury 110 (9.8 hp). When I pulled the plugs I noticed that they are covered with oil (wet, drippy, shiny). What are the potential causes of this, and where would I start trying to track this down. I ordered a manual but it hasn't come yet and I was hoping to get this sorted out his weekend. Thanks.

3 gallons of gas to 8 oz of oil. Should be 50:1, right?

I don't run surface gap because they where problems for me also,I do alot of trolling. Are your plugs L78Y?
Go to auto store & they should be able to cross to electrode plug for you & try that. Not too quick to suggest to go 1 hotter. If you do alot of trolling your low idle mixture could be a little rich.
