Thru-hull fitting question.

I'm replacing my thru-hull fittings and aerators on my bass tracker pro crappie. The factory fittings had rubber washers on the nut side and nothing on the other side. So should I use a sealant on the side that doesn't have a rubber washer?

I used 3M5200 on my drain plug.

Seems to be holding up quite well.

Fast cure 5200 would be the sealant of choice. Remove the paint around the opening and clean with alcohol or MEK to remove any residue. Put a liberal amount of sealant around the fitting and have someone on the inside snug the backing nut just until some resistance is felt. Give it a day and give the nut another 1/4 turn. The reason for doing tit his way is so that you don't make it so tight that you squeeze out the sealant.

Keep in mind that 5200 is permanent, so if you think you may ever want to remove it, Fast Cure 4200 also is an acceptable sealant for under-water fittings.
