i have two boats.
14 foot 89 bayliner, merc 1987 classic 50. 45 hp 4 cyl, 2 stroke. she will go 38 mph and very stable. she weighs about 900 dry
14 foot duroboat, johnson 1972 20 hp with 25 carb, she weighs 180 dry. i dont know how fast at wot, but pretty fast. maybe 26??

my question is this:
why is the tinny so less stable than a glass boat? is it due to the nature of the tiller steering? i had thought i could get the boat up to 30+, but at wot it is quite the unstable uncomfortable feeling. seems like if i wot, the slightest movement on the tiller could send me flying out the side.... :LOL2: is it me? or do i need to try and move the tilt pin to the last notch? at wot she gets a little squirrley, like the bow is plowing a bit. i have ptt on the bayliner so i can trim to the perfect tilt.
do any of you have the same issue on the tiller? i dont like putting fins on the motor but will if some of you have had good results.
any tips? this is the first tinny with a motor larger than a 15. always wanted to go a little faster than just planing. now the tinny will plane in seconds, with power to spare. im not sure if i want to go to a larger pitch on the 20, like the torque
