will a 20hp plane out a 1856 boat ?

Will a 2010 20 hp 2 stroke mercury plane out a 1856 weldbilt . I doubt it will but any ever used a motor that small for a boat that big ?

It should and very easily. The increased overall surface area and decreased loading of the bottom should allow it to plane with very little horsepower. Try it, I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the overall performance.

I used to own a 17' Polarcraft mod V Jonboat and had a 15hp Johnson 2 stroke tiller for power. I am 275 pounds and would always go out with another 220 pound friend. That little stinker would do remarkably well ....it blew off my Ballcap more than once.
