this is my first boat , a bit of a fixer upper but i got it for free from craigslist ! it is a Montgomery Ward Sea King, Year unknown, 12 ft aluminum V bottom, anyways, reason i'm posting today is i noticed a small hole in the bottom on the keel , near the back of the boat, been doing a bit of research about it and still not sure if its a drain hole, or something that needs to fixed, any advice or help would be much appreciated! thanks

Agreed......my old 12' Richline has one just like it. The main part of the hull is most likely solid sheet, riveted together, with a weld to form the bow. The keel was a seperate formed strip that got riveted down the center to form the keel.

Relax and get it wet.

ahh good, well good to know, wanted to pop it in the lake this week and see what happens, just kinda freaked me out a bit , cause i assumed that hole might fill the boat with water. thanks for the help!

That's a great little boat. Light on it's feet and easy to Row.
You don't need more than 5 to 7.5 Hp motor on it.
It can be Capsized if you have a Heffalump up front and he leans or falls over. Beware! :LOL2:

haha good advice, the boat came with a 1972 Johnson 6hp , but i cant get it started, motor turns freely, and will pop into forward and reverse gear, but cant get it to turn over, replaced spark plugs and got some fresh gas/oil mix, probably going to have to get it looked at , or clean the carb myself . But until i get the outboard running, i have a 30 pound thrust minn kota trolling motor :D

Spray some proper fuel oil mix into the carb the try to start the motor, if it pops the carb needs cleaning, if not check for spark.

attempted to start the motor again today, fuel was reaching the carb, but wouldnt turn over again, it popped 2 or 3 separate times, but just wouldnt start, guess im going to have to get the carb serviced, any idea on a good price to rebuild a carb?? motor is a 1972 Johnson 6 hp , Model - 6R72D , Thanks !

Check your idle needle adjustment. Also, make sure there is not a glob of gunk down at the high speed.

Is your fuel pump functioning?

At worst order a carb kit (less than $20) and rebuild the carb. It is pretty simple and straightforward.
