Have been looking for a motor for the 14ft. aluminum boat that purchased recently. It is designed for a short shaft motor, but i've been told that i can run a long shaft. Having a tough time finding short shaft motors, and wonderd if i can really run a longshaft or if it is a bad idea.

i made a lift for my boat it was built to take a short shaft motor iam running a 25 hp long shaft i think you can still buy a lift kit but cheaper to make your own

here are a few pictures of mine hope you can see them ok

Build up a wood plate that locates the cavitation plate about 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches below the center of the bottom of the transom.

Thanks for the help and pics guys. Ended up finding a deal on an older 9.9 evinrude short shaft and took it. Was hoping for a 15, but the 9.9 was a good deal and it runs fantastic. Seems to push the boat pretty good w/ me and my buddy in it, so hopefully it will when I put the deck and short floors in. Thanks again.
