15hp Johnson Rebuild

I have a 1978 15hp Johnson, how difficult would it be to install new piston rings? I will be getting a shop manual this week but thought I would ask someone that has done it before. Also what should be a decent compression reading? Is there a conversion kit make this motor a electronic ignition?
