1980 johnson 25hp leaf plate

Is there a trick when putting the leafs and stops back on the leaf plate? When i took the plate out to check them i used a flashlight on both sides and could not see any light from either side but now after putting them back together i can see light from both sides. When i disassembled the leafs from the plate i immediateley laid them flat on a peice of glass so i know they didnt get bent or anything....any help would be great.

If they are super close to being closed you have nothing to worry about. The pressure pulse in the crankcase will close them and or they should stick closed with the fuel/oil laying on them. Hopefully you used loctite on the fasteners??

Have not put the plate in yet...i played with it some and now only 2 are letting in light but bareley..wich loctite? Red 271? Or?
