Hey guys. My first post. First off want to thank all of you out there who have posted info and pics. Especially Crappie_Slayer with his Finally happening!! topic (bout a year old). I have pretty much just bought the same boat. After years of wanting to get one I dove in a couple weeks ago. Found this forum and am convinced I now need to modify my boat. Started strippin it down last week. I will put up some pics when I get the time. Time is a concern because I don't have much because of golf season. I am the coach at the high school. Also a PE teacher. Anyway, Gonna replace the transome and started to take the bolts out. Just wondering if I should do the leak test first or can I take it out, replace the bolts, and do the leak test?

Here are some pictures. Anyone have an answer for the leak test question?

Can't wait to see the progress! My friend and I are modding a '77 Mirrocraft we got a couple weeks ago.

Did the leak test before fully removing transome. Filled it up and let it sit all night. No leakage or seepage anywhere. Woohoo. Removed the back and front benches and middle brackets. Also took out transome. Looking to replace transom and reinstall before going any further. Do I have to use to pieces of plywood glued together or can I use a 2x12? Any suggestions?

Tryin to get movin on this thing but don't have much free time with the golf season going on. Here are some updates on my progress. I have about 4 coats of urethane on the transom now. Going out to put another on after I put the kids to bed. Probably try to knock out the pin stripe and stickers on the other side too. Been researching on how to paint this thing. The original paint is decent but I want this thing looking new. Hows the Duralux? I like the one step application process. Can I just sand the original paint and hit the whole boat with vinager and then the Duralux? I have a few spots that have worn to the aluminum so I figured the vinager application is a must. Any feedback or other suggestions would be great since I have gotten zero.

Just finished taking off stripes and putting another coat on the transom. Put hot air gun on inside wall behind stripe and just pulled them right off. EZ. Too bad I didn't figure it out until more than halfway done. Was curious about how hard it would be to take off the original paint job. I took an electric sander with 60 grit paper on it and went down to the metal on the paint easily. Probably gonna take the whole boat down to the aluminum now. Check out the last picture of the caulk line in the seams of the boat what should I do about this when sanding?

Thanks. I have checked yours out before. Love the benches. Looks good.

Finished getting the inside paint off. Used the grinder and power drill with wire brushes. Eventually, found the best way was to first hit is with the angle grinder and do the detail work with the drill. Gonna get some etching primer and the paint for the whole project tomorrow.

hey no prob i always used laquer thinner, for all my paint prep i always have it around so i never realy use much else,i would have posted this with my last response but we had a nice elec. storm last week and it fried my computer so im on here at work and have to be a lil sneaky...

Ordered some Gluvit on ebay. Gotta get the seams and rivets down to the aluminum. Also gonna paint the boat with the Parkers Duck Boat paint. Thinking a gallon will be plenty for the inside and out.

Haven't had time for an updated but heres where Im at on the inside of the boat. Painted on the Gluvit with a brush. One quart got me full coverage of all the seems and rivets and flooring below the water line. Stuff reminded me of the epoxy I use to glue golf clubheads to shafts. Even smelled like it. Had all the sidewalls down to bare aluminum. Sprayed two coats of self etching primer on them, took me almost 3 rattle cans for coverage. Built a hillbilly paint booth in the garage. Used one friends compressor and another friends spray gun. He showed me how to use the gun on one side of the boat and I did the other. Pretty easy. Let it dry all night last night. About to go get another coat on the sidewalls this morning.
