I'm considering buying a 14' aluminum flat bottom that just popped up today on Craigslist, but I need some input from you guys. I have a 12' V-hull, with a floor width of about 36", that I want to sell because it's a little too tippy for me. The 14' flat bottom's floor width is only 32". Will the 32" floor width be just as tippy? If so, I don't want to buy it. What's a typical floor width for a 12' or 14' flat bottom jon boat? Thanks.

too tippy! Not worth it,your 12 footer will be more stable in my opinion.

Typical for a 12 footer is 36 and 42 wide....Here is a link to look at

IMO, it will be a little tippy but probably not as much as that V hull.

You have to remember on a V hull that a full 1/4 (at least) of the boat is much less than 36" wide. The flat bottom will be that width almost the full length.

I have a 1448 that you can put 250# on the side of without tipping (or taking on water).

If you are planning to upgrade, I would look into a 1442. A 1436 is only going to gain you length, without any more stability, and a 1432 is a step backwards.
