I just bought an Alumacraft F7 from 1975. The transom is 16"+ to the bottom of the keel. Short shaft motors are 15" and long shaft motors are 20".
I found a great long shaft motor (1984 Evinrude 8hp with very little use for $500). Is there a problem running a long shaft on this boat? The caveat to a short shaft is possible cavitation. Besides drag from a long shaft, are there any caveats to running a long shaft?
Thoughts? I hope someone in the past has experience with both motors on this F7 hull.
Thanks,
Andy
