when you are officially measuring the width of a flat bottom boat, do you measure the bottom of the largest part of the boat, or in the front or back?

thanks

Oh, being an old sailor, I am surprised to hear that answer.....

The beam of a boat/ship/vessel/watercraft/etc, is always the widest point of the hull. The bottom width is the widest point at the bottom, which is generally at the transom of jons.
The length is fairly straight forward. So, a 1436 is 14 feet long, and has a bottom width of 36. However, the beam may be upwards of 52 inches.
