Costa Rica Fishing 3/11

Spent a week in Costa Rica and managed to get a half day fishing in with my GF.

Location: pacific ocean
Water temp: 16 degrees Celsius
Wind: 0 - 20mph out of the west
Water Dirty

Started off by catching live bait - don't remember the name of them but still a ton of fun catching them. I was catching 4 at a time on a Sabiki rig up to 6"
We then did a slow troll using live bait on the top and with a down-rigger set a 20' I let my GF catch the fish fish that hit the Live bait and she pulled in a nice size Rooster Fish. I'm guessing 10 - 12lbs
I worked the front of the boat casting toward the shore with a "Popper" The mate worked the back of the boat with a Popper as well. I managed to catch a small "jack crevalle" Pretty nice catching him on an artificial popper.

Not the best fishing due to the colder than normal water temperatures but still a lot of fun. After spending some time there and talking with more people it seems as though the bigger fish are being caught off shore on the full day trips. I would have loved to go on a full day trip but the cost was a little too much for me. Maybe next time....

I hear you. I really wanted to catch a Rooster Fish but I had to let my better half catch the fish fish. I actually enjoyed it as much as if I caught it myself. And yes she still rubbed it in that she caught the bigger fish LOL

I have a buddy that runs a charter boat down in Costa Rica! He is always asking me to go down there and fish! I cant wait to show my wife these pics!

Thats awesome, I go to Costa Rica at least once year. I stay in the mountains, a couple hours away from the pacific though. Next time I go, I'm gonna try fishing the rivers and lakes out there. Where is that?
