Bought a new 20 hp motor for my 14' Mirro-craft. The original motor was bolted on the transom. The new motor will also be bolted but the the holes will be 1" above the old holes. Can I fill the old holes with epoxy without loosing any strength in the transom?

A technique I use is to cut up some fiberglass into small bits, about a cup's worth. Then mix that with your epoxy & you get 'tiger hair;'. Makes great hole filler. Push it in with a big nail or pencil. Maybe tape the back side so it doesn't run out.

Actually there is a BIA standard for bolt on motors and USUALLY under 40 HP all are supposed to be the same. Over 40 I think all were pretty much the same, but Yamaha was much larger on their smaller motors to two years ago. I think they downsized their pattern around then.
