I bought my first boat (1950 something V hull with a 6 hp) on Tuesday. I am looking forward to sprucing it up quite a bit. I have already learned quite a bit from all of you on here. I am planning on using it for fishing and as a pleasure craft (you know something to get out on the water on). I have already started palm sanding the interior to prepare it for red Durabak bed liner. There doesn't seam to be any bad rivets. I want to paint the exterior, for aesthetics and corrosion prevention. What is the best budget mindful exterior paint that still looks good?

Welcome to the site g8er4lyfe. Congrats on the new-to-you rig.

I've seen lot's of good looking paint jobs from the Marine Rustoleum products. I'm guessing it's one of the least expensive marine paints.

Considering I don't have any leaks should I still apply Steelflex? I also found a potential paint Benjamin Moore's M22 Industrial Urethane Enamel $30 a gallon, which can be made any color. It is supposedly is the same as Interlux Brightside. At that price I may have found the perfect solution. I want to paint the outside gunmetal and durabak the inside red. Would the red be too hot?

I used this on my current build. Bought it at Lowes for around $12 a quart. I powered the boat up on the trailer and rode the guide on hard! Awful noise. Not a scratch. +1. Also a lot of guys on here also use implement paint with good luck.

I went to the Benjamin Moore website and found a local vendor. I am looking forward to picking out my own color as opposed to picking one from the handful of stock colors some of the companies have. Been getting the boat prepped with my little helper :)

I attempted to change out the wood on each side of the transom and when I pulled the aluminum topper I saw that the plywood was rotting at the top. Has anyone used Nidabond for transom replacement. I am thinking about doing this, as it looks much easier than the other alternatives. Any thoughts?
